Access for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) was put in place so that any barriers for people with disabilities were removed and services could be easily accessed. For those not in compliance, the AODA can bring about severe penalties, but some people may not know what is required of their website. Michael Cameron Legal Services knows what you need to be AODA compliant, and can advise and defend anyone unsure about where they stand.
Online Defamation
Defamation, libel, and plagiarism are all serious matters. They need to be handled professionally, with a level head and a thorough knowledge of the law. They are individually define as:
- Defamation: a statement which can potentially injure the reputation of the person to whom it refers; it is broken down into slander (spoken defamation) and libel
- Libel: a defamatory statement made through written word or print
- Plagiarism: all online product is subject to copyright law and the poster must have the permission of the author of the product to use it.
AODA Compliant Without Penalties
None of this should be taken lightly. If you have been accused of one of these three, or think you have been the victim of one, call Thomsen Paralegal Services. I can assess the situation and suggest a correct course of action.
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) seeks to identify, remove, and prevent further barriers for people with disabilities. It’s more than just training staff – your online presence needs to be accessible to those with disabilities, too.
